Our Most Recent Guest Artist

Joëlle Harvey

Joelle Harvey, Soprano Joëlle Harvey sang some beautiful arias by from the Cantata "Ode to St. Cecelia" by Handel and a Cantata by Buxtehude on our performance February 27, 2009 on the Music on the Avenue series. She has a marvellous, rich, and powerful voice and you will soon know, as we do, that she is destined for a successful solo career.

A native of Bolivar, New York, soprano Joëlle Harvey is quickly becoming recognized as one of the most exciting young talents of her generation. As a member of Glimmerglass Opera’s 2007 Young American Artists Program, Ms. Harvey performed the role of Cupid in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld to great critical acclaim and covered soprano Lisa Saffer in the role of La Princesse in Philip Glass’ Orphée.

In May of 2007, Ms. Harvey graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music (CCM), where she performed the roles of Amor in Cavalli’s L’Egisto, Emmie and Flora in, respectively, Britten’s Albert Herring and The Turn of the Screw and Sophie in Massenet’s Werther, for which she received the university’s coveted Sam Adams award for achievement in acting. Ms. Harvey currently resides in Cincinnati, where she is pursuing her Master’s Degree in vocal performance at CCM.

Ms. Harvey’s future engagements include Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro with The Dallas Opera, Flora in The Turn of the Screw with Portland Opera, Cupid in Orpheus in the Underworld with Eugene Opera, Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea at CCM, and Miranda in the Monte Carlo premiere of Tod Machover’s new opera Death and the Powers.

Our Past, and (hopefully) Future Guest Artists

One of our favorite additions to our concert programs is vocal music, and Cincinnati has some excellent vocal soloists. Some of our vocalists have gone on to successful careers elsewhere:

Youngmi Kim

A most beloved soloist is Youngmi Kim, soprano, YoungMi Kima doctoral candidate in vocal performance at UC-CCM studying with Mary Henderson-Stucky. Ms. Kim was born in Korea and received a Bachelor's degree from the Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, Korea. Youngmi is already a prize-winning performer, having won the 10th Korea Schubert Lieder Competition and the Emelie Dieterle Award at CCM. In 2003 she was chosen as a finalist in the International Baroque Singing Competition of Chimay, Belgium. She has coached with Elly Ameling and Julianne Baird. Ms. Kim returned to Seoul recently to perform Mozart's Exsultate jubilate with the Korean Broadcasting Symphony. Youngmi is often heard performing with The Catatoustic Consort, and most recently performed on "A Catacoustic Christmas" concert in December.

Youngmi's performances with us: Clerambault's cantata "Leandre and Hero". She was quite convincing as a Scottish lass singing Geminiani's "4 Scotch Songs" and Oswald's "Collin's Kisses".
